Why timing matters
A stone flicks up off the 401 and leaves a chip the size of a pea. Annoying, but harmless. Then the weather gets involved.
Water seeps into the chip and freezes overnight. Ice takes up more room than water, so it pushes the crack a little further. The sun comes out, it thaws, and the whole thing repeats. Ontario winters swing above and below zero again and again, so a chip rarely stays a chip.
Repairing it stops that cycle. Ignoring it is just a slow, scheduled windshield replacement.
REPAIR OR REPLACE?
Not every chip needs a new windshield. The size, depth and position of the damage all help determine what comes next.
01
Long or spreading cracks deserve a closer look. Share a photo so the team can assess the damage.
02
The position of a chip or crack matters as much as its size. We’ll help identify the right next step.
03
If damage affects visibility, arrange an assessment. We’ll explain whether repair or replacement is suitable.
FROM FIRST ENQUIRY TO HANDOVER
01
A technician checks the chip’s size, depth, and position. If it’s unsafe to repair, we’ll recommend replacement instead.
02
Loose glass and moisture come out of the impact point so the repair bonds cleanly.
03
Resin is injected under pressure so it flows into every tiny crack around the chip.
04
UV light hardens the resin, then we polish the surface flat. You drive away on your original glass.
How Winter Makes Chips Worse
A good repair stops the chip from spreading and restores the strength of the glass. It also makes the damage far less visible.
It won’t make the chip vanish. Most repairs fade to a faint blemish, and some leave a small mark where the stone hit. We would rather you hear that from us now than discover it in the car park.

GOOD TO KNOW
Usually, for a short time. But a hard pothole, a slammed door or a blast of hot defrost on a frozen windshield can turn a chip into a crack in seconds. A strip of clear tape over the chip keeps dirt and water out until your appointment.
A repair can leave a faint mark. We won’t put one where it could pull your eye away from the road, so chips in the driver’s direct line of sight usually need a replacement.
No. A repair keeps your original glass in place, so your lane-keep and auto-braking cameras stay exactly as they were.
Yes, for two reasons. The chip can spread, and dirt and moisture get packed into it, which makes the repair less clean. A chip fixed this week gives a better result than one fixed after a winter.
Lifetime warranty on our workmanship, for as long as you own the vehicle.
